Randy Love's Obituary
Randy Price Love, a lifelong resident of Charlotte, gained his wings on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at the Levine and Dickson Hospice House surrounded by loving family members. He is reunited with his beloved parents, Arlie Price and Nancy Matthews Love. Randy cherished his family and the joy they brought to him.
He met the love of his life, Joyce Norman Love, at just 15 years old when Randy was her family’s newspaper boy. Their love blossomed into a 56 year marriage. Randy was a 1967 West Mecklenburg High School graduate and then attended Alverson Draughn Business School. Soon after, Randy was drafted into the Army and served his country in the Vietnam War. They were blessed with two daughters, earning the title of ‘Daddy’ to Windy Love Holcomb (Todd) and Amy Love Strauss (Mike) whom he loved dearly. Affectionately known as ‘Granddaddy,’ he was so proud of his three grandchildren, Kyle Price Holcomb, Sydney Grace Strauss, and Erin Grace Holcomb. Each held a special place in his big heart.
Randy was the oldest of three brothers, Wayne (Carol) and Kenneth Love. He was best known as “Lovey” in this close knit trio. Randy loved their families, niece, Kelly Love Grass (David) and nephews, Travis and Nick Love. He was well-loved by all members of the Matthews, Love, and Norman families. Randy also had many friends that were like family from the North Myrtle Beach area.
As an avid gardener, Randy enjoyed surprising his daughters by showing up with flowers in hand and bringing gifts he thought they would like. He loved growing vegetables and going to the farmers market, stopping along the way to the beach for watermelons, peaches, and other seasonal fruit. Continuing a Love family tradition, he liked to take a ride to the mountains of North Carolina for apple picking season. He truly believed “not all those who wander are lost”. Randy loved to travel to wherever his spirit took him, cap on his head, seeking the backroads, and finding unique places with his adventure partner, Joyce. Randy was a NASCAR fan who enjoyed discussing past and present teams while keeping up with his favorite Ford drivers. He had a keen interest in the stock market and could run a discussion for the leader boards with his family and friends who would listen.
Randy loved all types of music, especially The Beach Boys and Carolina Beach music. He was most happy by the water, particularly in North Myrtle Beach, where he created lasting memories with his loved ones. He was quite the ambassador for the beach music scene and a proud member of SOS, the Society of Stranders. He thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie of friends he established throughout the years. Friends always knew they could count on Randy for the best places for ‘Happy Hour,’ whether it was a drink and peanuts with friends or Krispy Kreme with the grandkids.
Randy loved being around people, never met a stranger, and would start a conversation with anyone he met. He was a favorite even among the care teams that cared for him along the way. He was well-loved and will be dearly missed by many. A local celebration of Love will be held at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church 7400 Mt Holly Road, Charlotte N.C. 28214 Sunday, September 29 at 3:00. Family will receive friends in the sanctuary at 2:00 pm. Military salute ceremony will be held following the Celebration of Love.
