Raymond Milroy Henderson's Obituary
Raymond Milroy Henderson (“R.M.” “Paw-Paw”), of Cornelius, son of the late Rosebour Milroy and Alma Christenbury Henderson passed away peacefully at his home on December 22, 2022, at the age of 92. Born in Mooresville, NC, he was the anchor in any storm, and was loved and respected by all who knew him. R.M. first saw the love of his life, Nita, at a dance at Fireman’s Hall. As R.M. would tell it, “with a shuffle in my step and a twinkle in my eye, I walked over and introduced myself.” They would be married for 68 years. R.M. loved dancing with “his bride” probably more than anything else.
R.M. worked with wood most of his life. As a teen he worked with W.R. Griffin building cabinets. In the Navy he learned the trade of wood pattern making which he continued at Fab Pattern Shop until he retired from there in the early 2000’s. R.M. was a lifetime member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church and would proudly tell you that he helped build a lot of the woodwork at the altar.
R.M. is survived by his sister, Charlene McWhirter, his son Michael Henderson (Brenda), daughter Pat Barker (Steve) and son, Scott Henderson, 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva “Nita” Henderson, his daughter, Linda Hylton, his brother, Felix Henderson, and his sister, Juanita Pinyan.
Donations may be made to Oak Grove United Methodist Church or Hospice of Lake Norman.
A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, January 3 at Oak Grove U.M.C. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn West.
James Funeral Home is serving the family.
