Rebecca Lee Wiseman Eutsler Simmons' Obituary
REBECCA “BEE” LEE WISEMAN EUTSLER SIMMONS
Rebecca L. W. E. Simmons of Huntersville, North Carolina, passed away on June 15, 2022, after a long illness. She was 97, just shy of her 98th birthday.
Born and raised in Staunton, Virginia, Rebecca graduated high school and, following her older sisters, moved the next day to Washington, D.C., to live and work during World War II. She worked as a telephone operator at The C&P (Chesapeake & Potomac) Telephone Company, and then for the Federal Government as a secretary at The Navy Department.
Rebecca married Warner M. Eutsler, Jr., who was serving in Europe during the war with the U.S. Army-Air Corp. They lived in D.C., Maryland and Virginia while raising their daughter, Nancy, and then their late niece, Kimberly. “Bee” loved being a homemaker, elementary school secretary, Girl Scout Leader, and dedicated volunteer with various national, community, school and church organizations that were important to her.
Warner and Rebecca returned to her central Virginia roots to build their retirement home, where she continued her life-long love of gardening. They were blessed with 60 years of marriage before he passed. Allen Simmons, Sr. became her second husband and they were married for 6 years before his passing. She then moved to live with her daughter and son-in-law at their homes in Maryland and North Carolina.
Rebecca is survived by her brother Samuel William Wiseman of Maryland; her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Gary Compton of North Carolina; grandson Kevin Compton, his wife Jennifer and 3 great-grandchildren Kenley, Brooks and Caden of North Carolina; her late niece Kimberly’s 2 children, Alexia and Kian of Virginia; 2 sister-in-laws and 1 brother-in-law; many special nieces and nephews, as well as her loving friend and prayer partner Martha Hepler.
A small memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 26, in the chapel at James Funeral Home. A graveside internment service will be held at a later date at the family cemetery in Virginia.
