Rebecca Temple's Obituary
Rebecca Mull Temple, 82 of Cornelius died May 30, 2020 at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. She was born on April 29, 1938 in Durham, NC to the late Richard and Marian Hazel.
She graduated in 1955 from Grainger High School in Kinston, NC and matriculated to Duke University. From there, she went to Charlotte Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1959. She then began a 55 year nursing career at Duke University Hospital, following by nursing stints in clinics and hospitals in Kinston, Wilmington, New Bern, and Morehead City, caring for cancer patients for the last 30 years. She was a staunch advocate for those living with HIV and often provided care to them when it was not as readily available as it is today. She loved cross stitching and needlepoint, singing in the church choir, her hometown of Kinston, the North Carolina coast, Chick-Fil-A, crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy, winning staring contests with her grandson Ryan, and keeping up with her wide circle of friends by phone and by social media. She will be most remembered for her deep commitment and love for her family and friends, and for her absolute unconditional love of caring for others.
She was preceded in death by her former husband Burwell Temple, Jr. and her son Fred Temple.
Survivors include her sons, Morgan Temple and wife Kristy of Huntersville and Coleman Temple of Greenville, NC; sister, Debbie Sidbury of Charlotte; grandchildren, David Bailey of Niceville, FL and Ryan Temple of Huntersville, and countless extended family members and friends.
Memorials may be made to Pitt County AIDS Service Organization at PICASO.org, Crape Myrtle Festival at Crapemyrtlefestival.org/donate/, The American Cancer Society at Cancer.org/give, and Mary’s Kitchen, 800 Rountree Street, Kinston, NC 28501.
A service will be held at a later date at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Kinston, NC.
