Reece Gregory's Obituary
Mr. Reece M. Gregory, 82, of Charlotte, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, November 19, 2015.
Reece was a native of Charlotte, where he lived his whole life and raised his family. He made a career of selling automotive parts. He was a store manager for Southern Bearings in his early career, and later worked for various automobile dealerships, the longest being Gowen (later Hunter) on South Boulevard. Most recently he worked part time in the parts department of Toyota of North Charlotte. Mr. Gregory was a devoted family man, a loving husband and father. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps after serving aboard the USS Randolph towards the end of the Korean War. He was very proud of his service to his country. Reece was an avid sports enthusiast, a long time Washington Redskins fan, and served for a time on the Local Optimist Club board. Reece was a long time member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. He was very fond of fish, catching them and consuming them, and especially enjoyed fishing trips to the coast with his sons. Perhaps he will be best remembered by his family, friends, and coworkers for always having a joke to share, and for being skilled at telling them.
Mr. Gregory was preceded in death by his parents, William and Blanche Gregory, his first wife of 36 years, Vivian Looper Gregory, brothers; William, Ronnie, Jack, and Walter Jr.
Mr. Gregory is survived by his wife of 12 years, Lois Griffitts Gregory, sons; John “Tim” Gregory of Charlotte, Scott Gregory and wife, Igrid of Kingston, TN, daughter, Leigh Ann “Annie” Gregory of Charlotte, step-son, David Henderson, Jr. of Chilhowie, VA, step-daughters; Melissa Laney and husband, Charles “Chuck”, Terri Grady all of Charlotte, Shelia Lampkins and husband, Mike of Chilhowie, VA, sisters; LaVonne Murray, Carolyn Pickler, and Elaine Harper.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Wes Judy and Rev. Billy Towery officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until service time Sunday at the church.
