Reidunn Ostergaard's Obituary
Reidunn Ostergaard, 85, of Huntersville died May 18, 2020 at her home. She was born in Norway on February 3, 1935 to the late Reidar and Ellen Kristensen.
Reidunn grew up in beautiful Norway right on a fjord and lived through the occupation of Norway during World War 2. Her father Reidar was a ship captain and during the war she did not see him for 7 years. His ship was the first ship to return to Norway once peace came again and she often remembered how excited she was to see her father again who she did not even recognize.. As a young adult she moved to Denmark to attend a cooking school ( no wonder she got the NC Sons of Norway Baker award that she hung proudly in her kitchen) and when in Denmark she met her future husband Erik. Soon they decided to move to America where she supported her husband through college, helping him translate all his work into Danish so he could do the work and then back into English to turn it in. Erik often said she went to college with him. Their success as a team was an American dream; from Erik who had no high school diploma to his becoming a college graduate, Erik and Reidunn worked hard to achieve a beautiful home and life in Cherry Hill New Jersey. It was there they had their only daughter, Inger. Eventually after the loss of her husband in 1988 Reidunn moved down South to be with Inger, Ingers husband Lee and her four grandchildren; Tayler, Jack, Jeffrey and Coleman. Reidunn’s greatest joy was spoiling and bragging on her grandchildren. She brought each of them to Norway to see their roots, and was intricately involved in their upbringing. Swim Team carpool would not have happened without her help nor would have Ingers ordination as a Pastor. Reidunn’s loves were simple; Baking, Shopping, the North Mecklenburg Womens Club, Travel, Friendships, Fieldstone Church, celebrating the 17th of May, all animals, and especially loving on her Family. She will be greatly missed and is greatly loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband Erik Ostergaard.
Survivors include her daughter Inger Manchester, Husband Lee and her 4 grandchildren; Tayler Manchester and Husband Alonzo Diaz De Leon; Jack Manchester and Fiance Eileen Jakeway, Jeffrey Manchester and Coleman Manchester.
Memorials may be made to the Charlotte Humane Society or Fieldstone Presbyterian Church.
An outdoor, drive-up memorial service will be held at 10 AM Saturday, May 23 at Fieldstone Presbyterian Church 804 Fieldstone Road Mooresville NC. Private interment will follow at Northlake Memorial Gardens.
