Spurgeon McClaren Dorton, 91, of Huntersville, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2015 at Levine-Dickson Hospice House. Mr. Dorton was born on December 5, 1923 and grew up in Cabarrus County, NC, son of the late John Harvey Do Read Obituary

Pastor Spurgeon & Mrs. Betsy were among some of our most cherished friends. This weekend I opened a stored box of Christmas decorations to find a cross stitched Christmas pillow Mrs. Betsy had made for us one year. It brought back such warm memories. Your parents will be missed. Our love & prayers to each of you.
Our sincere sympathies and prayers are going out for you. Mr. Dorton was everything everyone has said he was, and more. We are so sad for your family, as we know you will miss him so much. He is surely smiling down on all of, with that sweet smile. "Precious Memories"
As I clicked on Spurgeon's obit the first thing I noticed was that bright smile. It is the same smile he had on his face every Sunday morning as he made his way through the sanctuary before the service started greeting everyone he could reach. Then the thought came to me, "oh my goodness I believe that same smile was on his face as he closed his eyes in peace and opened them to the face of Jesus.'
We are praying for your family! Such a precious man of God! We loved your parents so much!
Our dog Max was a good judge of people. When we moved across from your folks, Max instantly fell in love with your Dad. Whenever he would see Rev. Dorton out back, Max would stand at the edge of his invisible fence , wildly wag his tail, and howl until Rev. Dorton came through the trees to pet him. Your folks were wonderful neighbors. We had many lovely conversations with your dad, but our best memories are of looking out the window and seeing Rev. Dorton running around the yard, playing with Max. Knowing that the delightful person he was will fill your hearts forever, during this time of transition, we send you the comfort of the peace that passes all understanding.
