John Spinola
Dear Mrs. Kurlander,
I am sorry to hear the sad news of Dick’s passing.
Dick and I spent several years together at WBZ chasing rainbow rewards of high ratings and stunning profits. He was a wonderful workmate and memories of sitting at his desk preparing all what-if estimates required by the company will never fade. At BZ Dick’s great secret was that behind his quite, stoic like, demeanor was a man of great humor and wonderful sarcastic wit.
Dick’s time running programming at the rep allowed for regular contac and similar conversations as I searched for shows that might succeed in a more competitive world. His council and recommendations made many of us appear far smarter than we were. Your husband was a very good and very talented person and that Group W didn’t give him a station of his own was, and remains, a mystery.
I know that this is a difficult time for you. Losing a spouse is losing a best friend. Words of encouragement from friends only seem to enhance loneliness. It’s unlikely that anyone can ever understand your feelings but please know that family is the best of all comforts. I hope that yours is both large in number and close at hand.
Sincerely,
John Spinola
