Ric Walden
I was late learning about Dick’s passing and was very saddened to hear the news. I still wanted to share some thoughts hoping his family and a few others might know the friend he was to me. Between life stories and golf stories at Arnie’s, the jokes never ended. We were most proud of having both served in the US Navy during the Vietnam conflict. With other veteran friends, we attended military memorial services in the Lake Norman area. I listened to countless stories of the Wainwright and he was friend enough to listen to all of mine about service on the minesweepers. I still have the book he found and gave to me about the minesweeper fleet which mentions both of the ships I served on. A good friend, some good memories that will last a long time.
