I’ll never forget his quiet but steadfast presence in the early days of LifeTeen. And his smile welcoming me home to St Mark on my many visits back since moving away. My fondest memory is when St Therese youth program played a prank on our cabin during a retreat. A group of guys and “maybe a couple Core members” went to the St. Therese cabin. (I’m pretty sure it’s been long enough that the statute of limitations have expired, so it should be safe to share 😁). The entire time our group was overturning furniture, putting mattresses on the roof, ceran wrapping toilet seats, there was Dick, on the porch, reading the Bible. I remember thinking it was the oddest thing. After we were done, he’s got the Bible set on a chair on the front porch of the cabin, laid open with a few verses highlighted. All I remember is it was from Leviticus and said “I shall smite you for your sins sevenfold…” (I think it was Ch 6, Verse 24 but he had more than one verse highlighted). It was perfect, classic, and could not more appropriately fit the situation.
The world lost a great man and left a huge hole in the lives of all that he touched. We’ll miss you, Dick.
