Richard Sanderson's Obituary
Richard “Dick” Gregory Sanderson of Huntersville, NC died peacefully after fighting ALS known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, for over nine years on November 6, 2013. He was born May 20, 1951 in Morristown, New Jersey and was preceded in death by his father, Richard Gregory Sanderson Sr. and his mother, Vivian Veader Sanderson. Dick graduated from West Morris High School where he lettered in football, basketball and track. At Salem College he played basketball before graduating from Syracuse University with a degree in Landscape Architecture. He worked as a land planner for the Palm Beach County, Planning and Zoning Department in West Palm Beach, FL, before moving to Charlotte, NC as a Landscape Architect for Land Design, PA. Dick then spent over 15 years as a partner of Environmental Design, a land planning/engineering firm in Cornelius, NC. He was honored as Outstanding President of the North Carolina Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects; he was committed coach for youth basketball, softball and baseball in South Park, Davidson and Cornelius recreation leagues. He will always be remembered for being a devout Davidson College Basketball fan.
Dick is survived by: his wife of 32 years Dawn Dickens Sanderson; his three children Amy Sanderson, Melissa Sanderson Chandler and husband, Carter and Richard “Trey” Gregory Sanderson III; his brother Robert T. Sanderson, and wife Lupe of PA; and, his sister Arleen B. Bridenbaker, and husband Bruce of Avon Lake, OH., and many nieces and nephews.
Dick thanks all of his friends, family and the Bayada nurses for their tremendous love and support and for giving him the inspiration and courage to fight so long.

A service to celebrate Dick’s life will be held at 11 AM Saturday, November 9 at Davidson College Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow in the DCPC Congregation House.
