Richard Smith's Obituary
Richard G. (Rick) Smith of Charlotte passed away at the Levine & Dixon Hospice House on January 27 after a battle with bladder cancer. Born June 19, 1948 in Margaretville, NY, Rick spent most of his life in Dayton, OH. He served in The United States Army, and worked for more than 35 years for Independent Cash Register Dealer Association. Rick was an avid woodworker, handyman and a self-taught guitarist. He thoroughly enjoyed contributing to events entertaining children in his Winchester neighborhood, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was very active in his children’s sporting events as a referee for their youth soccer league, coach for the Mad River Youth Athletic Association, a chief for the YMCA Indian Guides in Dayton, OH and president for the Derita Athletic Association. He also spent many happy times on family vacations in Dale Hollow and Norris Lake, TN.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Beckey, of Charlotte, NC; daughter Kim Rogers (Jeremiah) of Matthews; sons Keith Smith of Charlotte, NC and Karl Smith (Leigh Ann) of Clover, SC; three grandchildren: Nicholas, Katherine, and Laurie Rogers; Brother Curtis Smith (Marta) of Vonore,TN; and sister Rae Cottrell (Russ) of North Branford, CT and many friends and neighbors.
A celebration of Rick's life will be held 1:00 P.M. Sunday, January 29 at Cole Memorial Methodist Church 2022 W. Sugar Creek Rd in Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends following the service.
