Robert Talton Blackwelder's Obituary
Robert "Bob" Talton Blackwelder, a devout Christian man known for his unwavering honesty, warm demeanor, and deep love for his family, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2024, at his home in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Born on October 11, 1937, in Charlotte, Bob was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He touched the lives of many with his genuine kindness, never hesitating to strike up a conversation with anyone he met.
Bob's life was characterized by his dedication to his faith, his love for his family, and his passion for service. He found joy in simple pleasures, such as working in the yard, feeding birds, completing crossword and sudoku puzzles, and never turning down a bowl of chicken and dumplings with a side of cornbread. His frugality was legendary, earning him the affectionate nickname "Frugal McDoogal."
A brilliant mind, Bob earned a Bachelor's Degree from Pfifer University and a Master's Degree from the University of North Carolina. He dedicated his career to education and service, teaching 7th and 8th grade Math at Cochrane Junior High in Charlotte, serving as a Professor of Computer Technology at Richmond Community College, Director of Bereavement at Hospice of Richmond County, and Chaplaincy Service at Novant Health Charlotte. Additionally, he served as a Lay Minister at Camden Presbyterian Church in Wadesboro and Hawley Memorial Presbyterian Church in Polkton.
Bob's impact extended beyond his professional endeavors. He was an active member of several Presbyterian churches throughout his life, including First Presbyterian Church in Hamlet where he served as a Deacon, Elder, and Clerk of Session, guiding and nurturing the congregation, Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church, and Prosperity Presbyterian Church.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Blackwelder, to whom he was married for an incredible 62 years; devoted son, Scott Blackwelder; cherished daughter, Beth Schultz; adored grandchildren, Peyton Schultz and Graeson Schultz; dear brother and pal, Roger Blackwelder; beloved sister, Kay Tye, and a host of other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Luna Blackwelder, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms into eternity.
A memorial service to celebrate Bob's life will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at Prosperity Presbyterian Church (5533 Prosperity Church Rd, Charlotte, NC 28269). Visitation will begin at 1pm, followed by a service at 2pm. A graveside service will take place at Sharon Memorial Park following church service.
Bob will be dearly missed but forever remembered for his love, kindness, and unwavering faith.
