Robert L. Hamblin's Obituary
Robert Lee Hamblin, of Huntersville, died September 30, 2013 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House. He was born June 29, 1928, in Hamilton, Ohio to Millard Filmore Hamblin, Sr. and Rhoda Alice Muncy Hamblin.
He leaves his wife of 65 years, Mary Ruth Miller Hamblin and children, Bobbie Ruth Hamblin Monger and spouse, Warren Allen Monger of Maryville, TN; Karis Jan Hamblin Kremers and spouse, Mark Stuart Kremers of Cornelius, NC; and Mary Carole Hamblin Dibble and spouse, Sweyden Ernest Dibble of Manchester, CT. He leaves 8 grandchildren, Jennifer Paige Monger and spouse, Paul Franklin Davis; Alex Stuart Kremers; Adam Hamblin Kremers; George Robert Kremers; Arden Nicole Dibble; Christopher Jacob Dibble; Michael Patrick Dibble; Sabrina Cheyenne Dibble, and great granddaughter, Hadley Logan Davis.
He was proceeded in death by three sisters, Rachael Elsie Langham, Ethel Martin, Mildred Helena Vinson, and by five brothers, William Luther Hamblin, Clarence Elijah Hamblin, Earl Hartman Hamblin, Thomas Raymond Hamblin, Millard Filmore Hamblin, II.
He grew up in Memphis, TN where he felt the call to be a minister while he was a high school student. He graduated from Memphis Technical High School. He is a graduate of Union University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Later Union University conferred on him an honorary Doctor of Laws Degree. He is a Distinguished Alumnus of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX, having received the Bachelor of Divinity Degree and the Doctor of Philosophy Degree. He also received the Doctor of Divinity Degree from Mississippi College in Clinton, MS. He was pastor in Tennessee, Texas, and Mississippi. He served as pastor of Harrisburg Baptist Church in Tupelo, MS for twenty-two years. He served for six years as professor at New Orleans Baptist Seminary. He also served as Vice-President of the Home Mission Board (now the North American Mission Board). He was an active leader in the Mississippi Baptist Convention, serving as a member of the Executive Committee and president of the Convention. He was a trustee at Southwestern Theological Seminary. He has been a popular preacher for many years. He has preached in all fifty states and in more that forty countries around the world. He has written eight books and numerous articles on preaching, evangelism, and Biblical interpretation. New Orleans has established the Robert L. Hamblin Chair of Biblical Exposition in his honor. Dr. Hamblin retired in 1998, and he and his wife moved to Huntersville, NC where he continued to preach and serve churches as interim pastor.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM Friday, October 4, 2013 at James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Dr., Huntersville, NC.
The funeral service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, October 5, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Huntersville with burial following in the church cemetery.
