Robert Daniel Long's Obituary
Robert Daniel Long, Sr., age 91, of Huntersville, passed away November 5, 2023, at Novant Hospice in Charlotte, NC. Dan was married to his wife, Faye Payne Long, for 68 years.
Dan was born in 1932 in Georgia, but grew up in Cramerton, North Carolina, son of the late Robert Vernon Long and Elward Cash. He graduated from Cramerton High School and attended North Carolina State University before joining the US Army.
Dan retired with Nationwide Insurance Company as District Claims Manager after 30+ years with the company. He was a member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church. Dan was a lifelong outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and playing golf for most of his life. He was a member of Cowans Ford Country Club for more than 40 years. Dan coached many boys in football and basketball with the Long Creek Optimist Club. He was the Optimist Club President for 8 years and established a basketball program for girls and one for high school youth.
In addition to his wife, Faye, Dan is survived by their children: Rusty Reynolds (Gershom) of Bishopville, SC; Sherri Green (Bill) of Charlotte, NC; Robby Long (Brenda) of Garner, NC, and Lisa Long Franklin (Brian) of Huntersville, NC; their grandchildren Lauren, William, Andrew and Harrison Green; Alicia and Casey Long; Daniel Reynolds; and Christopher Franklin; their great-grandchildren Autumn Sill, Sawyer Green, and Noah Hill; sisters Shirley Brandon (Don, deceased) and Jane Radcliff (Bill, deceased), brother Steve Long (Audrey), plus many loving nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on November 19, 2023, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 19600 Zion Ave, Cornelius, NC 28031. Visitation with the family will be at 2:00 pm, with the service at 3:00 pm, and refreshments following the service.
