Robert Park's Obituary
Robert "Bob" Park of Cornelius, born in 1928 in Pittsburgh, Kansas, took his rightful place in the sky in the evening hours of November 25, 2017 in his home. He was 89 years old. Robert was born in 1928 to Howard Wesley and Mabel Mae. He was an army veteran, serving in Korea for the United States. He married on March 13, 1951 to Patricia Ellis and graduated from Shurtleff College. Robert was a jack of all trades, graduating with an English degree he went on to dabble in many professions. From lab work, shoe salesman, engineering, designing and producing hybrid corn plants, building grain elevators, to piloting his own plane, working for Flight Safety dispatching airplanes in Florida until he was 78 years old, to Sunday school teacher and deacon, there was nothing he couldn’t do. Despite all of his professions, he was never happier than when he was in the sky with the world far beneath.
He was a king among his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Patricia. He was loved, adored, and survived by his sister Carol Ford (Kenny), sons Mark (Kathy) and Paul (Kathy), and his two doting daughters; Julie Gehrke (Dave), and Susan Deem. In addition, Robert had several grandchildren, Hillary, Lauren, Eric, Leslie, Travis, Kari, Mary, and Marisa. Robert had five great-grandchildren that were the light of his world.
Robert had a laugh that could fill a room. He had stories to tell for hours. There truly was nothing he couldn’t take apart and put back together again. He was a loving father, an affectionate grandparent, and a dedicated husband. He had a powerful presence wherever he was, and his wisdom and spirit will continue to dominate in the hearts and minds of his loved ones. He will be sorely missed and cherished by those left behind.
Robert finally earned his angel wings, and you can bet he’s soaring over us all now, with a deep belly laugh and a body unencumbered by age and disease. Rest well our warrior.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Sardis Baptist Church, Indian Trail. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery
In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be made to Habitat for Humanity and the Humane Society.
