Robert "Hayden" Pennell's Obituary
Robert Hayden Pennell, 95, of Charlotte died July 11, 2025 at the Preston House. He was born on October 14, 1929 in Alexander County to the late J. Arthur and Maggie Pennell. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by wife of 60 years Helen Smith Pennell, brothers Frank, Grady, Leonard, Solon, Donald and sister Ruby. He was a proud veteran serving in the European theater in the US Army. Since 1960 a faithful member of Statesville Road Baptist Church where he served his Lord and Savior as deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member. He never hesitated to let you know God was good to him and was daily reading his bible. Hayden enjoyed working a garden every year and proud of the fruit of his labors. He loved spending time at his family homeplace where he deer hunted especially after retiring from Siemens.
Survivors include his son Curtis Pennell of Charlotte; daughters, Kay Ostwalt and husband Smitty of Spruce Pine, Tina Courtney and husband John of Denver. Grandchildren: Maggie Yantis (Douglas), Jacki Ostwalt, Victoria Ostwalt, Daniel Courtney (Madi) and Haley Traynham (Spencer). Great-grandchildren: Behr and Zoey Yantis. The family would like to thank Preston House and Hospice VIA Healthcare his care. He also had great neighbors who always cared and looked out for him.

The funeral will be held Saturday, July 19 at James Funeral Home. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior. Burial will follow at Charlotte Memorial Gardens.
