Robert James Strobbe's Obituary
On Sunday, June 8, 2025, Robert James Strobbe went to be with the Lord after a long illness. “Bob" was born November 29, 1948 in Billings, Montana. He graduated from Ravenswood High School in Ravenswood, WV in 1967.
Bob was appointed to the United States Naval Academy in 1967 and commissioned in 1971. He served 8 years active duty and continued his service with the U.S. Navy Reserve retiring after 32 years at the rank of Captain in 1999. In 1979, he joined the West Virginia State Police and served for 21 years, retiring at the rank of First Lieutenant.
After retiring from the WV State Police, he worked for Yeager Airport Police, City of Ripley as City Judge, and as the Director of Jackson County Emergency 911 Center in WV. He was also a member of Hope Lutheran Church in The Villages, FL. In retirement, Bob enjoyed staying active playing pickleball while wintering at his house in The Villages, Florida. From late spring to fall Bob loved relaxing at his lake house in Mooresville, NC, playing cards and board games with his grandchildren and watching WVU football games. Anytime of the year he loved spending time with the love of his life Marilynn, grabbing lunch at their favorite haunts or taking walks https://together.
He is survived by his mother, Ethel Strobbe (Vancrest Asst. Living, Urbana, OH); brother, Thomas (Judy) Strobbe of Derby, Kansas; sisters, Diana (Tommy) Nutter of Sandyville, WV, Connie (Carter) Strobbe DeWerd of Urbana, OH; wife of 53 years, Marilynn Strobbe of Mooresville, NC; daughter, Kathy (Byron) Walters and grandchildren, Ashley, Katie and Jake Walters of Mooresville, NC; son, Michael (Brandy) Strobbe of Ripley, WV and grandchild, Brooklyn (Andrew) Izold of Evans, WV. He was preceded in death by his father, A.M. “Buck” Strobbe.
A private family service will be held at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC.
