Roger Hicks' Obituary
Mr. Roger Hicks, 74, of Cornelius passed away Monday, January 11, 2016.
A native of Detroit, Michigan, Mr. Hicks was the son of Eugene and Hazel Hicks and was of the Methodist faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Roger studied at Wayne State University and earned a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Eastern Carolina University. He taught art at several places including the Art Institute of Charlotte, Queens College, Birmingham Bloomefield Art Association, and at his own gallery, Art Works on Main in Mooresville. Roger enjoyed gardening and driving his Model A car. He liked flying and received a pilot’s license. He was a social butterfly that never met a stranger and made friends easily. Roger was a handyman and a “Do-it-Yourselfer”. He often told jokes and considered himself a great comedian. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Mr. Hicks is survived by his wife of 51 years, Suzanne Bartlett Hicks, son, Jonathan R. Hicks and wife, Marie of Huntersville, daughters; Heather MacFadyen and husband, Jim of Cornelius, Megan Lee of South Carolina, sister, Barbara Roberts and husband, John of Huntsville, AL, 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2016 in the chapel of James Funeral Home of Huntersville. Burial will follow at NorthLake Memorial Gardens.
