Ronald Tucker's Obituary
Ronald David Tucker of Denver, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at his home. Ron is survived by his devoted wife and friend of 29 years, Trisha, and his children: Steve (Debbie) Tucker, Karen (Jason) Hudson, Shannon Metcalf, Corey (Madeline) Zeigler, and Megan Zeigler. He took great pride in his role as a grandfather, lovingly known as Paw Paw, Grandpa, or Pop Pop, to Auden, Alana, Daniel, Kendra, Lundy, Shawn, Gage, Finn, Gunner, Wilder, and Rocco.
He was born in Stanly County and graduated from West Stanly High School in 1970. Ron pursued a career in mechanical drafting at Massey Business College and retired from Duke Energy in 2015. He navigated through life with a passion for air, land, and sea. He was involved in numerous clubs including the Catawba Valley Astronomy Club, Carolinas Miata Club, North Carolina Woodturners, and the Experimental Aircraft Association before his passing.
In 1991, he achieved a significant milestone by obtaining his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying his cherished 1946 Aeronca Champ. In addition to his passion for flying, Ron found joy in astronomy, photography, especially landscape and astrophotography, and enjoyed camping, kayaking, and boating. He loved driving his Miata Scarlett every year in the Colwood July 4th parade!
He was a skilled woodworker, who generously shared his craftsmanship with family and friends and enjoyed making pinewood derby cars, trophy displays, or anything else his grandkids could imagine. Ron was a man of few words but when he did, he spoke with intention, warmth and a bit of humor. He showed his love through his actions. He was always there to lend a helping hand, teach one of his kids how to change a tire or how to make home repairs all with a strong emphasis on safety first!
Ron was often found in his favorite recliner, surrounded by his beloved pups (Sassy and Chloe) and grandkids, reading technical magazines or watching instructional how-to videos on YouTube, continuously expanding his knowledge and skills. Ron will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him as he was a genuine man. His legacy of adventure, craftsmanship, and love will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Ron’s life will be held at James Funeral Home on Friday, July 12th at 3:00 with a reception immediately after.
