Rose Miller's Obituary
Mrs Rose Steiger Miller, 98, passed away peacefully in her sleep in Mooresvile, NC on Monday, August 5, 2024.
Rose was born July 10, 1926 in Mercersburg, PA, the daughter of Elisabeth Harman Steiger and Linn Smith Steiger. She grew up in Mercersburg, accompanying her father and Uncle Seth to their farms and attending St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she married Andrew Dutton Miller on October 8th, 1949. Rose was a graduate of Hannah More Academy and Cedar Crest College and a life long supporter of the Mercersburg Academy.
“Rose Harman” spent most of her adult life in Akron, OH, where she and her much adored husband “Andy” loved to entertain, attend symphony concerts and play tennis and golf with wonderful friends. Rose was a long-time member of the Akron Garden Club, Diggers and Weeders, St, Paul’s Episcopal Church and the Portage Country Club. Her volunteer pursuits included work for the Akron Art Institute, Blossom Music Center and Akron Childrens Hospital. She so enjoyed flowers and flower arranging and spoke often of her volunteer work in the gardens on Stan Hywett Hall. An avid world traveler, Rose and her family lived in Christchurch, New Zealand from 1961-1964. Mrs. Miller’s husband Andy Miller died in 2005. She is survived by her children Douglas Miller (Jena) of Cornelius, NC; Molly Ettenger (Allen) of Tucson, AZ; Grandchildren Andrew Miller and Samuel Miller, George Ettenger and Kolb Ettenger; a sister Linda Steiger Carpenter and five great grandchildren.
