Roy A. Whitley Jr.'s Obituary
Roy Allen Whitley Jr., of Mooresville, was welcomed into the arms of his Savior on February 8, 2025 at the age of 85.
He was born to Roy Allen Whitley Sr. and Ruth Ballard Whitley on December 17, 1939 in Charlotte, NC. He graduated with the last class at Central High School, where he was also Senior Class President. He was an Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow. He attended Duke University on a full scholarship, and he was a founding member of the Boggers. While there, he enlisted in the United States Army. After his time in the military, Roy graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College with a degree in Business. In 1977, he started Whitley-Reavis Insurance, a family-owned business that is still active and successful to this day. Currently, three of his sons and two of his grandsons work for the business.
Roy met his beautiful bride, Lynne Creighton Whitley, and they were married on August 3,1963. Married for nearly 50 years, they raised four wonderful children: Roy Allen Whitley III, Michael Scott Whitley, Matthew Emerson Whitley, and Angela Lynne Whitley (Turner).
Roy was a loving husband and father. He was also a very dedicated follower of Jesus. He was always active in his local Church body. He was an elder at Reynolda Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem for decades, and he was highly involved in evangelism and revival meetings. In 2001, he and Lynne moved to Lake Norman where they built their dream home. They joined Grace Covenant Church in Cornelius and were able to serve in various ministries. He was also a member of the Gideons. Ultimately, his greatest ministry was leading his family to follow the Lord.
Roy joins his wife, Lynne, parents, Roy Sr. and Ruth, and sisters, Sylvia Craft Helms and Carolyn Whitley Thomasson, in Heaven. Roy is survived by his children, Roy Whitley (Robin), Mike Whitley (Catherine), Matt Whitley (Lori), and Angie Turner (Bran). He was the beloved Pop-Pop to many grandchildren: David Whitley (Kenadi), Joseph Whitley, Jacob Whitley (Skyler), Catherine Whitley, Makenzie Whitley, Whitley Brown (Tyler), Tyler Whitley, Brooke Turner, Noah Turner, and Brayden Turner; and two great granddaughters: Elisha Whitley and Ember Whitley.
The family would like to thank the home health care providers along with the nurses and CNAs for their compassion and love that was extended to our father.
