Ruby Hucks Cook's Obituary
Ruby Lenora Hucks Cook, 99, of Huntersville, NC, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2021. She was born on April 5, 1922, in Charlotte, NC to Lester and Viola Cook Hucks. Ruby and her husband Ernest started and operated Cookstand Farm in Huntersville for over 50 years, milking registered Holsteins. Two of their children, James and William, each carried on the farming tradition.
Ruby was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend. In her later years, spending time with family brought her the most joy. She was very active in the United Methodist Women at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, as well as the North End Home Extension Club. She loved making things, whether canning and freezing fruits and vegetables from her large garden, cooking and baking, tending her flowers and yard, sewing clothes for her family, crocheting and needlepoint projects, learning new handcrafts or refinishing furniture. There was little Ruby couldn’t do if she wanted to learn how. She also enjoyed taking trips with her church friends and family.
Ruby is survived by four children and a daughter-in-law – Rusty (Tauria) of San Luis Obispo, CA, Catherine (Dennis) York of Clover, SC, James (Jennifer) of Penhook, VA, Carolyn B. Cook of Huntersville, and Sara (Harry) Holloway of Winchester, VA – as well as a sister, Gladys H. Howell of Cornelius and a sister-in-law, Dorothy M. Hucks of Wilmington, NC, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. Ruby also is survived by seven grandchildren – David York, Melinda (Mark) Trail, Stephen (Melody) York, Erin Cook, Jonathan Cook, Andrew Holloway and Mattea Holloway – and nine great-grandchildren. Her husband Ernest, son William, grandson Joshua, 6 siblings and her parents preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Cornelius, NC with Pastor Stephen York and Rev. Jonathan Marlowe officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Mt. Zion for an hour before the service.
James Funeral Home is serving the family.
