Ruth Barkley's Obituary
Ruth Pettus Barkley, 84, of Huntersville, passed away November 3, 2011 after a short but valiant fight against cancer. Ruth was born on April 21, 1927 to the late Hugh and Janette McCall Pettus. She was a member of VFW Post 9736 Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed playing bingo there as well. She had previously been employed by Calvary Church and Elox Industries. Ruth was a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time with her family. Ruth was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband Albert C. Barkley, Sr.; sister, Lottie Barkley; brothers, Milford Pettus, Sloan Pettus, Craig Pettus and Donald Pettus.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory; son, Albert C. Barkley, Jr. and wife Mona of Huntersville; daughters, Dianne Powers of Huntersville and Debora Barkley of Charlotte; sister, Rachel Lakey of Indian Trail; 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 PM Saturday, November 5, 2011 in the Family Life Center of Hopewell Presbyterian Church. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Hopewell Presbyterian Church with Rev. Allan Purtill and Rev. J.E. Wayland, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
