Ruth Cannon's Obituary
Mary Ruth Speagle Cannon (Ruth), 80, of Charlotte, departed this world to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, November 8, 2013. She was born on April 24, 1933 in Laboratory, Lincoln County, NC to the late David Franklin Speagle and Alma Jane Thutherow.
She was a member of Lincolnton High School, class of 1950, Lincolnton, NC. Ruth was a member of the Wesley Fellowship Class at University City United Methodist Church. She moved to Washington D.C. at age 17 to work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the Identification Division. She retired from Synetics, Inc. in 1985. She nurtured her life-long love of fiber arts and launched her rug-making business Simply Rugs in 1994. She was an avid reader. She and her husband Bob were members of Dance Masters of America and Dance Educators of America while teaching social dancing. Ruth will be remembered for her love of church and family.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert Jett Cannon (Bob); sons, David Jett Cannon and wife Susan of Lewisville, NC; Daniel Thomas Cannon and wife Diane of Indian Land, SC, Brett Michael Cannon and wife Anna of Charlotte, NC and granddaughters Nicole Sophia Cannon and Alexa Jett Cannon, daughters of Brett and Anna.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Jack Defay Speagle and sister, Peggy Ann Speagle Anthony.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, November 11 at University City United Methodist Church with Rev. Ron Smith officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
A private interment will follow at Forest Lawn East.
