Ruth G. King's Obituary
Ruth Grainger King was born April 18, 1935, in Lumberton, NC to Brite and Nettie Grainger. She was raised in North Carolina and while working in Fayetteville she met Ertle King. On Sept 7, 1952, at the age of 17, she married Ertle, the love of her life, and began a lifelong adventure.
During their 62 years of marriage, Ertle and Ruth traveled all over the United States in their motor home, exploring, square dancing and being together. Ruth had a passion and talent for crafts, particularly crocheting crosses. While the proceeds from the crafts were enough to pay for gas for their adventures (an agreement between Ertle and Ruth), she gave freely to whomever she felt needed something, particularly the crosses. Her crosses have made their way around the world. Ruth and Ertle settled in Huntersville, NC (the base camp for their adventures). At the bottom of their lives of service together was their strong and abiding faith in God. They were founding members of the Lake Norman Baptist Church where they served for many years in many different positions. Their daughter, Diane, was born in Lumberton, NC and added spark and joy to their lives. On December 9, 2014, at the age of 79, Ruth went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She is survived by her husband, Ertle King, daughter, Diane King, sister, Ann Hughes, and brother-in-law, Fred Hughes.
Ruth led a life of service to her Lord, Jesus Christ, and was a devoted mother and wife, who put God, her husband and daughter before herself. The family would like to give our sincere thanks to the staff at the Memory Care Unit at the Mooresville, NC Brookdale Churchill and the Hospice of Iredell County for their loving kindness to her.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday (December 12, 2014) at Lake Norman Baptist Church (7921 Sam Furr Road, Huntersville, NC 28078; 704-892-0143 -- http://www.lakenormanbaptist.com/). A viewing will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the Service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow the Service at Mount Zion Cemetery in Cornelius, NC.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation in the name of Ruth King be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County at 2347 Simonton Road Statesville, NC 28625 (704-873-4719 --https://www.hoic.org/honorary_donations.asp).
