Ruth Carolyn Stephens' Obituary
Ruth Carolyn (Medlin) Stephens, 88, of Huntersville, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025. She was born in Monroe on October 17, 1937, the daughter of the late Roy and Naomi Hinson Medlin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Jimmie Almond and Wade Stephens; sons, Michael Almond and Randy Almond; and siblings, Asbury, Aubrey, Wilson, Bobby, and Linda.
Ruth is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James Edward Almond and Laura; daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Darlene Berry and Kevin; grandchildren, Joshua Berry, Katelyn Berry, Jeffrey Almond, Christopher Almond, Jennifer Rouse; great grandchildren, Lindsey Paige, Courtney Breedlove, Hunter Almond, Aleigha Almond, Summer Cannamela, Nick Johnson, Silvia Berry; and great-great grandchildren, Kai Paige, Justine Paige, and Noah Breedlove.
When Ruth was born, she only weighed one pound and slept in a dresser drawer. She was one of six children who grew up in a poor life. She left school at the age of 16 to take care of her mother and father; she often helped her dad with work on the dairy farm. Her sister, Linda, attended the school for the deaf in Morganton and Ruth would drive her back and forth to school each day. She was a kind lady who would always be there to help anyone in need. Ruth was raised in the church and also raised her children in the church.
Ruth's favorite saying was "keep on trucking". She had a green thumb like no one you have ever seen, she could grow anything. We are sure she is at peace now and no longer suffering from any pain. She will be missed very much by so many people especially her daughter, Darlene, who has been her caregiver for many years. Heaven has gained the best angel ever.
The family would like to give her grandson, Joshua Berry, a huge "Thank You" for helping with Maw. He stepped up and did an awesome job and we love you.
