Sally Ann Mowrey's Obituary
Sally Weidenmeyer Mowrey, of Terrell, NC, born on November 1, 1946, lost her 2 yr battle with cancer October 29, 2020.
She is survived by: Husband, Michael A Mowrey of 48+ years; Mother & Father; Elizabeth & Harry S Wiedenmeyer (both deceased); Sister in law Cynthia Mowrey Smee and husband Robert of New Cumberland, Pa; Nieces & Nephews: William Mowrey & wife Linda, David Mowrey, Krystan Mowrey Ressler & husband Doug Thomas Smee & wife Jocelyn, Jennifer Dougher & husband Dave, North Carolina Family: Jim & Bernita Crompton, Joe & Sarah Jane Crompton, Thomas Crompton; Grand nieces & nephews: Ben Mowrey, Kyle Mowrey, Victoria Robinson, Geoffrey Smee, Zachary Smee, Jax Dougher, Cece Dougher, & great great niece & nephew BrynLee & Chase Mowrey, Hazel, Elliott & William Crompton.
Sally was born and raised in Carlisle Pa. She a was graduate of Carlisle High School and Shippensburg University with a BS in Education and a Masters in reading. She taught in the Carlisle School District after graduation as an elementary teacher and a reading specialist until marrying Michael in 1972. They moved to Winston Salem, NC in 1973 for Mike’s job with AMP inc. She then began teaching in the Winston Salem/ Forsyth Co. school system as a reading coordinator, then curriculum coordinator and retiring after 26 years of teaching. Sally was very active in the Pfafftown, NC community, where they lived for 29 years. She was very involved in the Pfafftown Jaycees and Jaycettes as well as in Brookstown United Methodist Church. She received many awards for her participation including Jaycette of the Year, President, and Honorary Mayor of Pfafftown NC. Many, many fond memories of the Jaycee/Jaycette projects, meetings and conventions as well as the life long friends they made over those many years. She treasured the time at there place at Lake Norman as well as shareing with many friends and family over the years and they retired there in 2002. Her favorite times were with the Nieces, Nephews and of course there parents. She was an active member of Davidson United Methodist Church and made a lot of very dear friends there. Sally also treasured the many trips they made over the years with those friends and she especially loved Hilton Head NC as well as our many trips back to Pa. to visit family and friends. She always felt profound gratitude and blessed for the great friends, family and opportunities she had in her and Mikes shared lives together. She was also very fond of the dogs in her life: Jeb, and the Golden Retrievers Maggie, Tess, Addie and Eli.
The move to North Carolina introduced her to their North Carolina family, Jim & Bernita Crompton. She will be forever grateful for them sharing their lives and family for over 47 years.
Sally enjoyed life, smiled often, laughed easily, and had a way of making those around her feel comfortable. She always treated people with kindness and respect.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 12:00 Noon, Thursday, November 12 at Davidson U.M.C. Inurnment will be private at the church.
A reception at the home: 3750 Fords St, Terrell, NC 28682, will follow in the service.
