Sally Taylor DuBose's Obituary
Sally Taylor DuBose, 91, of Davidson, N.C., passed away on January 31, 2018, at The Pines retirement home. She was born April 16, 1926, the daughter of Judge George Keith and Jennie Hardaway Taylor of Amelia Court House, Virginia.
Sally attended Westhampton College of The University of Richmond. There, she was inducted into membership of Phi Beta Kappa and Mortar Board, an honor society that recognizes collegiate achievement in scholarship and leadership. Following college, she taught school in Martinsville, Va. and Kensington, Md.
In 1954, Sally married the Rev. William T. DuBose of Laurel Hill, N.C. Throughout his ministry, in addition to motherhood, she was involved in service in the church and community. Her life was characterized by charm, unselfishness, service to others and a commitment to the Lord Jesus. Friendship meant a great deal to her and those whose love she shared. Throughout her life, she maintained close touch with friends from childhood, from her days at Westhampton, and in the parishes in which she served with her husband, Bill.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved brother, the Rev. Richard Feild Taylor, and his wife Ginny.
In addition to her husband of 63 years, Sally is survived by sons, William T. DuBose, Jr., a thirty-four year employee of Davidson College, and Richard T. DuBose, President of Montreat Conference Center, his wife, Jeannie and their three children, Kirby Hardaway, John Sherrard and William Manning DuBose; also, by Wade DuBose Burns, who joined the family as a teen, and thereafter has remained a significant member, his wife, Susie and their two sons, Connor and Scott; also, by nieces, Finley Sutton (David), Jennie Shirey (David) and nephew, George Keith Taylor (Carol).
Among the DuBoses' fondest memories are summers spent in their cottage in Montreat. There, it was Sally who “made things happen” for children, grandchildren, extended family and beloved guests at annual house parties.
Sally's charm was evidenced daily during the last four months she spent in Healthcare at The Pines. Every caregiver and friend who came to her bedside was greeted with a smile and dismissed with a word of appreciation, even on the last day of her life. The family feels deep appreciation for the loving care that characterizes the staff in that facility.
A service of Witness to the Resurrection will be conducted at Davidson College Presbyterian Church at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 3. Graveside service is to be at a later date in Georgia at The Decatur Cemetery.
Memorial gifts may be sent to The Montreat Conference Center, PO Box 969, Montreat, N.C., 28757 or to the Will DuBose Baseball Scholarship Fund, Davidson College, PO Box 7170, Davidson, N.C. 28035.
