Salvatore DeAngeles and I were buddies, classmates, altar boys, pals and girl chasers, and just darn good friends. In our youth he was known as "Sammy." In his early teens Sammy decided that he had a religious vocation and he entered a seminary in New Mexico. There he learned it was not his calling and he entered Winslow High School with the rest of us. It was around that time that I dubbed Sammy with a facetious moniker, "Sanitary Sal." Sal was very fastidious and the nickname stuck. After high school Sal went on to the US Army and eventually he became an engineer. Occasionally we would meet up and reminisce. It was always a nice reunion and we remained friends all these years. I regret that we did not live closer so that we could visit often.
It seems that 2021, has been a very sad year. I lost my beloved wife, Susie, last march. She died from heart failure. I find the grief is very heavy. On behalf of my brothers, Stephen and Patrick, and sisters, Jane and Louanne, I extend our most sincere offer of sympathy to Sal's wife and family and his sister Ellen and little brother Stephen.
