Sara Zedaker Barber's Obituary
Sara Zedaker was born, in Charlotte, on June 30, 1933 to Lloyd and Sarah Zedaker and passed away on October 31st at age 92.
She was the youngest of four children and enjoyed being the youngest in the family. She grew up in Charlotte and attended Harding High School. She married M.C. Young III and had 3 children: Cindy, Mac and Sherri. Later, she married Mike Barber and spent many years in partnership with Mike.
Sara, also known as Granny, had a career in banking starting with City National Bank. She worked her way through the ranks within American Bank & Trust, United Carolina Bank and BB&T to manage a branch in Cornelius. Sara never met a stranger and the role of branch manager played to her strengths – being friendly and sharing her big https://smile.Sara loved her family and cherished her time with them. She loved talking about her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed making biscuits for family gatherings always using her cherished big yellow bowl and wooden board. Granny was known for playing Bingo and playing video machines. She didn’t brag but everyone knew about it when she collected some winnings. She loved the beach and was proud to be left-handed.
Golf was a big part of Sara’s life for over 40 years. She and the ladies at Carolina Golf & Country Club were regulars on the course for 30+ years, often with a “toddy” in https://hand.Sara was a member of Derita Presbyterian Church and enjoyed the online sermons of Independence Hill Baptist Church. Her faith was an important part of her life and she loved her devotion books that she read daily.
Sara was predeceased by her parents, her daughter, Sherri, her husband Mike, and siblings Bob, Ellis, and LaVerne.
She is survived by her daughter Cindy (Glenn), son Mac (Cindy), stepson Gary, and grandchildren Matt, Christy, John, Claire, Tyler and Neely and 9 great grandchildren.
A service to celebrate the life of Granny will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025 at Independence Hill Baptist Church, 10220 Independence Hill Road, Huntersville NC 28078, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel. The family visitation time will take place in the chapel from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be considered for the Glioblastoma Foundation, Derita Presbyterian Church or Independence Hill Baptist Church. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Huntersville Health and Rehabilitation Center for the care they provided to Granny.
