Sara Kirk Killian's Obituary
Mrs. Killian, age 98 ½, of Charlotte, NC died at home on October 19, 2015
She was born April 9, 1917 in Newell, NC, daughter of John Andrew and Cora Suther Kirk. Sara was a graduate of Newell High School and Queens College. She was a charter member of Westover Hills Presbyterian Church and worked diligently in that church. After moving to northeast Charlotte, she returned to her home church, Mallard Creek Presbyterian, where she served in the Sunday School Department and the Presbyterian Women. Sara received the Presbyterian Women's Honorary Life Membership in 1999. She worked as a secretary for Wachovia Bank, and National Farm Loan Association before she and her husband, John, founded Killian Oil Company and later Killian Mobile Home Park. In addition to her duties as a home maker, she was the secretary for both family businesses.
Left to cherish her memory are 3 sons: James H. Killian, Sr. (Linda), Don W. Killian (Debbie), J. Kirk Killian (Betsy); 6 grandchildren: Amanda K. Booth, James H. Killian, Jr., Devon Killian Simpson, Derrick L. Killian (Tasha), Christen C. Rockholt (Roddy) and Chad K. Killian; one great-granddaughter, Jessica K. Booth; brother Harry S. Kirk, Sr. (Margaret) of Charlotte, NC, brother-in-law R.G. “Bud” Killian (Fay) of Shelby, NC, many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Sara was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, John W. Killian, one infant son, John W. Killian, Jr. and brothers Donald S. Kirk, John Eugene (Gene) Kirk, and James William (Bill) Kirk.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 23, 2015 at Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church with Rev. Shawn Barkley and Rev. Ken Craig officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 10 AM.
In place of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the Cemetery Fund of Mallard Creek Presbyterian, 1600 W. Mallard Creek Church Road, Charlotte, N.C. 28262 or a charity of your choice.
