Setsuko Harmon's Obituary
Setsuko (Ito) Harmon was born in Tokyo Japan on February 11, 1940 and had 3 sisters and 2 brothers. She was a lover of the outdoors, an avid mountain climber, and a host to climbers on Mount Tanzawa. She had many accomplishments, one being a black belt in Kenpo Karate.
Setsuko met Robert (Bob) Harmon on the ski slopes in Zao Japan in 1969. She came to America, then married Bob on February 20, 1971. They had two children and was a devoted wife and stay at home mother. Setsuko continued her love of the outdoors, camping and hiking in the states with her family. She also attained her private pilot’s license in 1987 and enjoyed traveling adventures throughout the west coast, flying with Bob in their 1972 Cessna 150.
Setsuko continued all these activities until she received a diagnosis of breast cancer in 2005, and began showing symptoms of Alzheimer’s that same year. She beat the cancer, but her Alzheimer’s continued to worsen. In January 2013 she was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer that spread to her liver and was given no more than 6 months to live. Setsuko was never upset or bothered by her diagnosis and always had a smile on her face. Bob retired to be her full time caretaker. She had chemo for quality of life, proved doctors wrong by surpassing the 6 months, and continued chemo for 2 years until she was cancer free by the grace of God.
Unfortunately her Alzheimer’s progressed until it eventually took her life on September 26, 2022 at 11:52 pm. Setsuko took her last breath with a huge smile on her face.
She is survived by her husband Robert (Bob) Harmon; son Koji Harmon (Rika); granddaughter Alice Harmon; daughter Christine Stone (Brad); granddaughter Sadie Mae Stone; and sister Michiko Takashima
