Sharon Higgins' Obituary
Sharon Dion Higgins, 73, of Cornelius, North Carolina, passed away on September 4, 2023. Born on November 26, 1949, in Columbia, South Carolina. Sharon was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Sharon, known affectionately as Granny, was a kind and generous lady. She had a knack for surprising her loved ones with thoughtful presents and homemade meals. Her warm personality and love for others made her a cherished member of her community.
Sharon dedicated her life to caring for others as a Registered Nurse for 46 years. She worked as an Operating Room nurse and later served as the Director of Infection Control and Employee Health at Harris Regional Hospital in Sylva, NC. Her commitment to her profession and her patients was commendable.
Outside of her career, Sharon found joy in her hobbies, including trying new recipes to share with friends, reading on the beach, and taking leisurely walks. These activities allowed her to unwind and find solace in the simple pleasures of life.
Sharon will be deeply missed by her surviving family members, including her loving husband of 52 years, Scott Higgins, her children Abbey & Andy Burka and Amy & Beau Horack, and her grandchildren Emiline and Leo Burka, and Ashton Horack. She is also survived by her brother, Al Dion and his wife Barbara, and nieces and nephews Katie Williams, Shana Hales, and Jesse Dion. Sharon was preceded in death by her mother, Louise Dion, and father, Albert Dion.
Sharon's life will be celebrated at a Memorial Service on September 29th at 1pm at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Davidson, North Carolina.
