Shirley Knox Brown's Obituary
Shirley Knox Brown, 92 of Huntersville, NC passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at Morningside of Concord Assisted Living. Mrs. Brown was born on March 26, 1930 in Huntersville, the daughter of the late Robert Neal and Martha Steele Knox. Mrs. Brown was married to the late William Orr Brown, Jr. They enjoyed traveling and taking a part in many community activities. Mrs. Brown was a graduate of Cornelius High School and King’s Business College and retired from North Mecklenburg High School as a Financial Secretary after 25 years of service. She was an active member of the Huntersville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, serving as a treasurer, deacon, Sunday school teacher, WOC officer and youth leader. Mrs. Brown was a Girl’s Scout leader and was involved in many of her two daughter’s daily activities.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 o'clock, Saturday, January 7th at the Huntersville ARP Church with Rev. Nick Napier and Rev. Lee Shelnutt officiating. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary starting at 10 am. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her two daughters, Mrs. June B. Overcash and her late husband Richard Overcash of Huntersville and Sharon B. Allen and husband Rick Allen of Bluffton, SC. She is survived by her six grandchildren, Daniel Overcash, Adam Overcash and wife Kelli, Ashley O. Cook and husband Glenn of Belmont, Andrew Wight and wife April of Durango, Colorado, Morgan A. Lavey and husband Wesley of Greensboro, Rick Allen III and wife Chelsey of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Also survived by seven great grandchildren, Hadley Overcash, Cameron and Blakely Cook, Erin and Emma Overcash, Jude and Remy Wight. Three sisters Sarah Knox, Evelyn K. Washam and Hazeline K. Peoples, preceded her in death.
