Solomon Hellinger's Obituary
Solomon Solis Hellinger (Sol), 86, of Huntersville, died June 11, 2023 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on July 18, 1936 in Philadelphia, PA to the late David and Dorethea Hellinger.
Sol served in the United States Marine Corps from 1953 to 1973, and retired as Captain. He did one tour in The Korean War, and three tours in Vietnam. After retirement from the Marines Sol worked for Central Piedmont Community College in several roles from 1975-2001. He was the VA benefits coordinator, Director of Auxiliary Services, and finally Special Assistant to the President with the property acquisition and risk management department. After retirement from CPCC Sol became Club House assistant and Ranger at Larkhaven Golf Club from 2001-2012. Sol was a Boy Scout, Troop Leader, Assistant Scout Leader, and Volunteer for Troops 39 and 164. He was also recipient of the Silver Beaver award.
Survivors include his wife Mary Elizabeth Hellinger; sons, Jay Hellinger of Matthews and Randy Hellinger of Huntersville; daughter, Dawn Poole and husband Mike of Huntersville; sister, Ronnie Silverman; Grandchildren, Megan Masters, James Poole and wife Erin, and Erika Hellinger; Great Grandchildren, Hayden and Beckham Poole.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday, June 16 at James Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 3:30 PM Saturday, June 17 at James Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Northlake Memorial Gardens.
