Spencer "Allen" Irvin's Obituary
Spencer “Allen” Irvin, 83, of Huntersville, NC passed away on Monday, August 31, 2015 at the Huntersville Oaks.
He was born on June 7, 1932 in Huntersville. He was the son of the late Edna Irvin and was married to the late Janice Tilson Irvin for 61 years . He lived in Huntersville all his life. He served in the US Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954 and received a Purple Heart. He was the owner of Irvin’s Body Shop from 1960 to present. Allen was an excellent fabricator, welder and expert painter. He enjoyed building fire trucks for local fire departments. He was chief of the Huntersville Fire Department for 39 years, where he was President of the Mecklenburg County Fireman’s Association for 3 terms. He served 3 terms as chairman of the Mecklenburg County Fire Commission. Allen organized the North Mecklenburg Rescue Squad and was the first chief in 1959. He was also a Reserve Police Officer with the Huntersville Police Department and coached the Huntersville Pony League baseball team for 8 years.
Survivors include son, Larry Dalton Irvin and wife Judy of Huntersville; daughter, Gina Irvin Ewart of Huntersville; 4 grandchildren, Kendall Irvin and wife Holly, Brent Irvin, Blake Ewart and wife Mary Catherine, and Lydia Ewart; one great-granddaughter, Kenley Irvin.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2015, at 11:00 AM, at First Baptist Church of Huntersville. Burial will follow at Gilead ARP Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at James Funeral Home.
