Stefan James Dunne's Obituary
Stefan James Dunne, 38, passed away on December 22, 2024. He was born on September 3, 1986 in County Laois, Ireland to Brendan John Dunne and Ann Elizabeth Dunne.
Stefan lived life to its fullest. He told the most fascinating stories from his life in Ireland, Australia, and the United States. Each story highlighted his sense of adventure and was told with humor. He loved to travel, explore, and embrace new experiences. While in the United States, he lived in New York, Chicago, New Jersey, and finally Charlotte, North Carolina where he and his wife bought their first home.
Stefan held many professions. From working on a farm in the outback of Australia to bartending around the world, he valued hard work and integrity. His love for a good pint and great conversation was reflected in his work. He often came home from work and said “it doesn’t cost anything to just be nice.”
Stefan had a deep love for music. He was a talented DJ. He got his first set of decks at the age of 16, and was hooked from the start. While DJing was not his profession, it was his passion. Over the last 20 years, he went from playing for his friends in his bedroom to playing in various radio stations, clubs, and bars. Beyond DJing, Stefan found so much joy in music. He often sang along to his favorite tunes late at night on balconies, much to the delight (or laughter) of those nearby.
Among his other loves were Manchester United and sharing pints with family and friends. It was a treat to sit with him for a chat and a skit. His humor and sarcasm were unmatched. He knew how to poke and make fun, while making you laugh and giving you the biggest hug in the end.
Stef was kind and compassionate. He always “sees it for what it is” and “calls it for what it is.” He had a remarkable ability to empathize with others, particularly in difficult situations where others would shy away. He was a gentle giant, full of empathy and generosity. Even in death, he continued to give by donating his organs.
Stefan was the best husband, brother, uncle, son, and friend. He was known by many names, proudly always reminded those close to him that he was “Mami’s best little soldier.”
Though his family and friends still grapple with this tremendous loss, Stefan left this world at peace, grateful for the life he lived and the love he received from those closest to him.
In addition to his parents, Stefan is survived by his wife Sheena Dunne; and siblings, Amy Elizabeth Dunne and Jonathan Brendan Dunne.
A visitation will be held from 12-1 PM Thursday, December 26 at James Funeral Home followed by a 1:00 funeral service in the James Funeral Home Chapel. A reception will follow the funeral in the James Funeral Home Community Room.
James Funeral Home of Huntersville is serving the family.
