I was so sorry to hear of Steve's passing. Thank you very much, Karen, for reaching out to let me know. Steve and I grew up in the same Sunday School class at Augsburg Lutheran Church in Winston-Salem. I have many fond memories of good times we shared with the Agape youth group. We lost touch for many years and somehow Steve found me on social media and reached out with a letter several years ago. We spoke on the phone about once a month after that. Steve would tell me all about his family and how close he was with his sisters and nephews. He called me when his mom died and told me all about his dad in the hospital. As a teenager, Steve would help my father, Jim Hoke, with the sound system at the church. My father really enjoyed working with him. I know Steve loved animals - we had lots of laughs about the antics of his cat and bird. He would always ask about my Dalmatians, Sally and Gracie. He was always very interested in what I was up to and he would send little gifts in the mail from time to time. Steve was really a very kind person and I will miss him. I hope I can continue to stay in touch with the family. I love you all and extend my most sincere condolences. As these things go, I just never expected that he would be taken so soon and I always had the hope that he would be able to visit Myrtle Beach one day with Karen. I know Steve had faith and that we will meet again one day. Until then, farewell my friend!
