Steven Thomas' Obituary
Steven J. Thomas, 68, of Mooresville, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 9, 2025. He was born on May 9, 1957, in Gary, IN to the late George and Margaret Thomas.
Mr. Thomas was a member of the Journey Church of LKN and active in a life group at the Huntersville, NC, church. Following the devastating flooding caused by Hurricane Helene in 2024, he joined with Samaritan’s Purse to serve the people in the North Carolina mountains. Steve was a long-term volunteer with Appalachia Service Project.
In Mooresville, he was a board member of the Langtree Homeowners Association.
A 1981 graduate of Purdue University, Mr. Thomas studied industrial management at the West Lafayette, IN, campus. He later became an accomplished sales executive with Nalco Chemical working in Indiana, North Carolina, and Louisiana. His many interests include boating, cooking, cycling, fishing, and recreational shooting.
Steve is survived by his sons, Matthew (Matthews, NC) and John (High Point, NC). A sister, Karen Yehle (Bluffton, SC); a partner, Betty Maines (Lake Norman); an ex-wife, Nancy (Winston-Salem); and a brother-in-law, Don Yehle (Bluffton, SC), who all mourn his passing. Loving cousins; nieces and nephews; and their families across the country grieve as do lifelong friends from Theta Chi Fraternity at Purdue.
A Celebration of Life is planned for 3 P.M. Monday, June 16th at Journey Church in Huntersville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Along Side Families c/o the Journey Church in Huntersville.
