Sue Mull Broome's Obituary
Sue Mull Broome
July 19, 1938 - October 14, 2023
Audrey Sue Mull Broome, 85, of Charlotte, North Carolina, formerly of Lexington, NC, passed away October 14, 2023.
Sue was born in Burke County, NC to the late Pansy Mae Lingerfelt and Colon Phifer (Bill) Mull on July 19, 1938. After the death of her mother at a young age, she spent her formative years at the Junior Order Children’s Home in Lexington, NC, where she made many lifelong friends. In 1956, she graduated from Lexington Senior High School and began a successful career at BellSouth Advertising & Publishing Company. She retired from BellSouth after 36 years of employment in 1993.
As the matriarch of her family, Sue was a beacon of strength and unconditional love. She was a fiercely independent woman who provided selflessly for her children and grandchildren. She showed her love for them by adopting their passions as her own – sharing in the excitement of the big game or a favorite television show. She was a long-time member of Northside Baptist Church. She had a talent for baking, which she passed along to the women in her family, and gifted delicious treats to everyone she encountered. To her friends, Sue was generous and dependable, with a remarkable ability to lift the spirits of anyone in her presence. To her family, she was a devoted mother, granny, and sister, who enjoyed nothing more than spending time with the people she loved so well. She will be deeply missed.
Sue was preceded in death by her daughter, Leisa Broome Tucker; brothers, Edgar Harris Mull and Tommy Lee Mull; and sisters, Doris Mull Morris and Linda Mae Mull Hedrick.
Sue is survived by daughter, Pam Oliver, and husband, Tracy Oliver of Harrisburg, NC; grandson, Cody Oliver of Huntersville, NC; granddaughter, Shea Ivey, and husband, Brian Ivey of Asheville, NC; sisters-in-law, Mary June Mull of Burbank, CA, and Annie Mull of Sun Valley, CA; nieces, Terri Morris, Lisa Morris, Ella Smith, Susan Myers, Kelly Lazaro, Caryn DiSarro, and Megan Mull; nephews, Wayne Morris, Greg Mull, Gary Mull, Dean Hedrick, and Brian Mull; and a host of great-nieces and nephews, family, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at James Funeral Home in Huntersville with Pastor Steven Stinson officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at TerraBella-Harrisburg, the hospice team at VIA Health, and to Sue’s dear friend, Ethel McVickers.
