Sue McCarron's Obituary
Susan (Sue) Cecilia Sullivan McCarron, 73, of Davidson, NC died June 13, 2023 at her home, as the great love of her life, Deacon Richard McCarron, sat alongside her in prayer. Sue’s incredible strength and faith were a part of her despite her two year battle with cancer and will be carried on in the legacy of the family she leaves behind.
She was born on July 18, 1949 in New York, NY to the late Thomas and Margaret Sullivan. Sue was the third of eleven children and developed a deep sense of nurturing others and loving unconditionally from the family surrounding her. These attributes were pillars of what she carried in her day to day life and passed on to her children and grandchildren.
Sue stayed home with her children and was actively involved in the St. Augustine’s Parish and School communities. She would often be seen cheering on the sidelines at basketball games or getting kicked out because of her cheering. Either way, she brought a smile to everyone’s face and managed to have the full support of her community. As the years went on, Sue went back to school and earned her degree from Rutgers Douglass College to begin her 19 year teaching career as a high school English professor. This job became a passion for her to share her love for literature and her meticulous use of grammar. Once Sue retired, she and Deacon Rich moved to North Carolina and found a new home at St. Mark’s Parish.
One of the greatest joys in Sue’s life was her love for her grandchildren. Any time she could, she bragged about every one of their accomplishments. It was evident that every moment she had with each of them was cherished and brought her a love that she had known nowhere else. Even in her final weeks, she requested that they each be given “many hugs and lots of love”; which is something she never forgot to do.
As William Shakespeare wrote, “For those who love, time is eternal.” The family Sue came from and the family she built with her husband are the reasons she knew how to love so freely and abundantly. This love will last well beyond Sue’s life and will be with her in her eternal rest.
Survivors include her husband Deacon Richard McCarron; sons, Richard, Jr. (Dawn) of Syracuse, NY, Kevin of Pittstown, NJ, Brian (Annette), of Jackson, NJ, Terence (Heather) of Cleveland Heights, OH, and Daniel (Melody)of Somerset, NJ; daughters, Erin Petura of Pennington, NJ and Colleen Paras (Victor) of Somerset, NJ; 9 siblings and 17 grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to St. Mark Catholic Church or the St. Augustine Catholic Church.
The family will receive friends from 3-6 PM Friday, June 16 at St. Mark Catholic Church. The funeral service and entombment will follow in New Jersey.
James Funeral Home of Huntersville is serving the family.
