Suzette Barker's Obituary
Suzette Johnston Barker, 68, of Charlotte, beloved wife, mother, daughter, and aunt, made her journey to heaven on July 17, 2026. She was born in Charlotte to Hoyt Caldwell Johnston and the late Jean Gladden Johnston, both of Charlotte. She graduated with the Class of 1976 from West Mecklenburg High School.
Suzette loved being with her family, whether at the beach , mountains or simply at home. She especially loved “Suzette’s Cinema” which was family movie night. She loved traveling and being in nature. Suzette loved the Lord and His creation andhad a particularly soft spot for dragonflies. She had such a positive and supportive spirit and never met a stranger. One of her most redeeming qualities was that no matter what was going on, she always had time to listen and talk.
Suzette is survived by her husband of almost 46 years David Lee Barker, son Derrick Barker, father Hoyt Johnston, brothers Wesley Johnston (Lee) and Eric Johnston (Jessica) and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother Jean Johnston and sister Melanie Johnston.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21st at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC., with visitation being prior to the service from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Paw Creek Presbyterian Church, 7400 Mount Holly Road, Charlotte, NC 28214.
