Thad Chesson's Obituary
Thad Russell Chesson of Cornelius, NC passed away on November 20 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House, after a two and a half year battle with metastatic prostate cancer. Thad was 54 years old.
Raised in Greensboro, NC, Thad is remembered as a kind and gentle person, a scholar, an athlete, a wise friend and a man of God. From a very early age, Thad loved the game of football. He attended Western Guilford high school where he excelled on the football field and on the track. He was also musically talented and played the piano for many years. Thad attended college at UNC Chapel Hill, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. He was chosen to participate in the Honors program and graduated with a degree in Business. Thad was co-owner of the Massey Company where he worked for 25 years. He retired in 2017.
Thad was an active member of Davidson United Methodist Church where he was very involved with Adult Faith Formation. He participated in and led Disciple Bible Study classes for over 15 years and formed wonderful and lasting relationships through this program.
Thad enjoyed riding his bicycle, and once rode across the country from the coast of Oregon to the coast of North Carolina. He was very active, and golf and snow skiing were two of his favorite pastimes. Thad especially loved spending time in the mountains of Colorado, both in the winter and summer months. After retirement, he bought a motorcycle and spent as much time as possible riding on long day trips through the mountains.
Thad is survived by his wife of 28 years, Susan Massey Chesson, his son, Charlie Chesson and his fiancé Melinda Nagel, his son, Jake Chesson, his parents, Sherwood and Dolly Chesson, his sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Doug Haynes, his brother, Wentz Chesson, his parents-in-law, Charles and Sue Massey, his brothers-in-law, Charles Chan Massey and Joseph Chan, his sister-in-law, Katherine Noble, his nephews, Alex, Parker and Samuel Haynes, his nieces, Sarah and Annie Echols and Julia Noble and many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Celebration of Thad’s life will be held on December 2 beginning at 2:30 pm at Davidson United Methodist Church.
