Thomas C. Dutton, 81, of Iron Station, NC went to be with the Lord on August 10, 2024 surrounded by his family. Tom was born on June 20, 1943 in Mecklenburg County to the late Ralph and Lois Dutton.
Tom was a 1961 graduate of North Mecklenburg High School where he ran track. He continued his education at UNC Charlotte where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business. Tom served in the National Guard. He spent his entire career in banking—starting with First Union and then retiring from the Bank of the Ozarks. Tom had a deep love for the Lake Norman community which was shown by his lifelong service to the community. He was involved in the Lake Norman Chamber, Lions Club and the North Mecklenburg Rotary Club. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and the Don Bridger Sunday School Class. He served in many capacities at Mt. Zion during his 50+ years of membership. He enjoyed going to the Wednesday morning men’s prayer breakfast. Tom volunteered time raising money for the Angels of ’97 memorial, which established a new computer lab at Alexander Middle School. He loved living on the lake and enjoyed boating and jet skiing with family and friends. Following his retirement from the bank, he worked at James Funeral Home comforting so many families—many he knew for his entire life.
