Thomas E. McKenna's Obituary
Thomas E. McKenna, 72, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, January 9, 2018.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Frances (nee Johnson); their children; Kara of Mount Vernon, NY and Robyn Seidman (Jon) of Fort Mill, SC; his granddaughter, Leah Seidman; sisters-in-law Sharon Palma (James) and Sharon McKenna, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Jack and his sister Patricia.
Tom was born and raised in Brentwood, NY, and after joining the Navy and traveling the world, he returned to Brentwood to build a home with Fran and raise their family. After retiring, they moved to Cornelius, NC in 2007. He and Fran loved spending their summers at Keen Lake in Waymart, PA. Tom was a vibrant man, full of life and always willing to lend a hand. He was everyone's go-to handyman. Affectionately known as "Mr. Nice Guy," his "dad-style" puns always elicited a giggle and a groan, and his smile was truly infectious. He enjoyed golfing, boating, woodworking, spending time with family and friends, and relaxing in any sunbeam he could find.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 4pm until 8pm at James Funeral Home of Huntersville, NC. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 10:30am at St. Therese Catholic Church of Mooresville, NC. Reception to follow the mass at the Alexander Chase Community Clubhouse at 19700 Deer Valley Drive, Cornelius, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
