March 25, 1950 – January 26, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas Lemly Shields, who went to be with the Lord on January 26, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on March 25, 1950, Thomas lived a life full of service, dedication, and love for his family and community.
Thomas was a man of faith, having dedicated over 30 years to pastoring and guiding his congregation with compassion and devotion. His commitment to his calling was unwavering, touching the lives of many and offering counsel and support to those in need. In addition to his pastoral work, Thomas served for over 20 years with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office, where he was known for his integrity, work ethic, and commitment to keeping his community safe.
Outside of his professional life, Thomas had a deep passion for baseball. He was an avid fan and collector of baseball memorabilia, always looking to add to his cherished collection. He also enjoyed researching his ancestral history, and his curiosity about his roots was a lifelong pursuit. Above all, Thomas treasured time spent with his family, creating lasting memories with those he loved.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 52 years, Lynda Shields; his daughter, Leslie Black, and son-in-law, Jay; his son, Philip Shields, and daughter-in-law, Melissa; and his cherished grandchildren, Gracyn, Harper, Levi, Logan, Maverick, and Thomas Zander. His legacy of faith, service, and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at 2 PM Friday, January 31st, 2025 at StoneBridge Church Community.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to your local crisis pregnancy center, local women’s shelter, StoneBridge Church Community, or for the donation to be put towards helping anyone in need in your local community.
