Thomas Smith's Obituary
Thomas Smith, 87, of Concord, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025. He was born on January 27, 1939, in Tioga, PA, to the late Richard and Arlene Smith.
Tom was a member of Gilwood Presbyterian Church. He served honorably in the Marine Corp after high school until July of 1958. Tom worked in Transportation and Logistics for IBM until his retirement. Tom enjoyed all things outdoors. He loved to work in the yard and the garden and take walks with his canine companion, Lady. Tom loved the beach. He spent many summers camping with his family at Holden Beach and Emerald Isle Beach. In recent years, Tom spent time in the summers with his family at Sullivan’s Island and Shem Creek. He enjoyed people watching, walking on the beach, and exploring the creeks and marshes of the low country.
Tom is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Sandra. He is survived by their children, Kelley Smith Lackey (Joe Lackey), of Mammoth Lakes, CA, and Aimee Smith Gravender (Ryan Gravender), of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Nathan, Jack, Thomas, Katherine, Frances, and Isla; brother, Robert Smith (Sharon Smith), of Mansfield, PA, sister, Carol Smith Minnich (Gerald Minnich), of Mechanicsburg, PA, sister, Mary Jo Skoglund, of Mechanicsburg, PA; and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm. at James Funeral Home in Huntersville, NC.
