Tommy "Pop Pop" Whiteside's Obituary
Tommy Lee Whiteside "Pop Pop", age 88, of Lake Norman, passed away Thursday, November 1, 2018. Tommy was born in Lincolnton, son of the late Thomas Henry and Nettie Hovis Whiteside.
He served in the United States Navy. Tommy worked as a Regional Manager in the steel industry.
Tommy was very involved as the first Commander of the Lake Norman Sail and Power Squadron. He also was a past Chairman of the Lake Norman Marine Commission. During his time on the Commission he worked closely with others to establish navigational aids on Lake Norman. His passion for boating brought many happy memories for him and his family.
Tommy is survived by his wife of 68 years, Frances Hollar Whiteside of the home, his daughter, Cindy Whiteside Coggins, (Mitchell) of Denver, NC, four grandchildren; Heather Coggins, Ryan (Amanda) Coggins, Allen (Wendi) Heglar and Lindsay (Oscar) Hopkins and five great grandchildren; Luke and Kila Heglar, Ragan and Riley Hopkins and Emma Gray Coggins.
Tommy is predeceased by his daughter, Karan Whiteside Heglar.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 pm, Sunday, November 4, at James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Drive, Huntersville. No funeral service is planned at this time.
