Vera Killian's Obituary
Miss Vera Mae Killian, 100, passed away on June 21, 2016.
The second daughter of the late Jessie Claude Killian and Rena Sifford Killian, she was born on August 30, 1915, in Gaston County, NC.
Vera’s first jobs after leaving the farm were in sock mills in Cornelius, NC and Lincolnton, NC. She later worked in a hosiery mill in Mr. Holly, NC before accepting a sales position at J.B. Ivey’s and Co. in Charlotte in 1946 – a career in the stationary department which lasted for 33 years.
Preceding her in death were a brother, John Wiley Killian in 1946; a sister, Isabell Laney Killian in 1983; and her older sister, Jessie Irene Killian in 2014. Two nephews, Robert Killian Hampton died in 1995 and John David Hampton died in 1996. A great niece, Danielle Elyse Hampton passed away in 2013.
Survivors include a brother, Claude Alonzo Killian and a sister, Frances Killian Hampton, both of Stanley, NC.
Also surviving are a niece, Rebecca Kay Killian of Stanley; two nephews, Richard Howard Hampton, Jr. of Huntersville and Tracie Brunt, fiancé, and William Kimball Hampton of Stanley. The widow of nephew John David Hampton, Angela McGee Hampton of Stanley also survives.
Other survivors include four great-nieces and one great-nephew. Also surviving are five great-great- nephews and two great-great-nieces
Services will be held on Thursday, June 23 at 3 pm at Unity Presbyterian Church, 8210 Unity Church Road, Denver, NC of which Miss Killian had been a member since 1983. Pastor Trisha Lytle is officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at Unity.
Burial will follow at Martha’s Chapel Cemetery at 176 Killian Farm Road, Stanley, NC.
